Downtown Sydney!

Today was a wonderful day in downtown Sydney!!! (Sorry no pictures tonight as I am exhausted but maybe tomorrow :) )

I was woken up by my roommate moving in for the first time which was alright. It is nice for her to finally be here! Her name is Lindsey and she seems cool from what I saw of her today. Some friends and I then jumped on the bus (yet another one!) and headed to downtown Sydney and it let us off right at Circular Quay, about half way between the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. It was really nice to have the full day in the city and not really have any agenda... just knowing that we wanted to take a lot of pictures! We hung out around the two and around the warf for a couple of hours before walking around deeper in the city, again, with no destination in mind. We ran across a couple of cool shops so we spent some time in there. We ran into a wonderful ice cream place that was ice cream from all around the world! I tried "Hokey Pokey" from New Zeland and it was delicious! It was caramel and chocolate and yummmy. The kind they chose to represent America was fudge brownie... not sure how I feel about that.

It was hard to remember that simialry to how they drive, they also walk on the left side of the sidewalk. It is much more noticable in the city than it is around where I live as you don't too often pass someone on a narrow sidewalk around my apartment. I found myself drifting to the right and would have to consciously think about walking on the left again.

We then headed back to Coogee and hit up the Coogee Bay Hotel where Thursdays are dollar burgers... yummm. That was delicious and really fun because it was pretty much the place to be. Saw a lot of people we knew, both intentionally and unintentionally so that was fun! :) We then headed over to my friend Kim's house and hung out with her and her roommates for a bit and now I am here and ready to turn in early as I am EXHAUSTED! It has just been go go go for so many days that it is finally catching up with me. Orientation for the University is tomorrow so I need to get some good rest so as to be ready for that.

The weather today could not make up it's mind. Every day I have been in Sydney it has been sunny and decently warm. For those of you wondering what the weather is like at this time of year it is typically low to mid 60s during the day, getting colder at night (somewhere in the 50s). Today though it was overcast and 48 when I woke up, turned sunny, went overcast again (and fairly chilly), and tonight it was pouring rain. Not quite sure what it wanted to do. I really can't wait for it to warm up around here as it will be nice to be able to hang out by the beach a lot more!!

Cheers mate,

Val :)

p.s. the time on here is super wrong. It is currently 10:50 pm on Thursday July 16th. I haven't quite figured out how to change the time on this blog yet...
